At first we thought this was a simple disintegrator, but the readings were all wrong, so we looked again.

It turns out that this ray removes all the empty space between your molecules, and thereby shrinks you down into something microscopic, but with the same mass as before. It took us some time to find our test subjects, but we succeeded.
